In a statement on March 03, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh: ‘We condemn Belfast based Thales UK for supplying 5,000 missiles for war and for the British governments financing of death and misery.
“This growing concern comes on the back of Britains imperialists announcing a £1.6bn exports agreement to supply Ukraine with missiles. These monies will come out of a loan worth £3.5bn from the United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF) to spend within the UK arms industry.
“According to the Chartered Institute of Export & International Trade, defence shares across Europe have surged following the weekend’s announcements, with the UK’s BAE systems up 15% and Thales UK rose to 16%.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach has highlighted, what we are witnessing is the economic and political quid pro quo of war. Whilst overall, it underscores the broader theme of how monetary incentives can shape perceptions and hinder critical thinking about death, destruction and war.
“Meanwhile, one would anticipate a Christian to advocate for humanity. However, the morally corrupt politician Gavin Robinson of the DUP fails to uphold these values. Instead he says, the defence spend is encouraging for the industry and welcomes 200 jobs in his constituency. He goes on to say, we’re giving the tools to make sure a sovereign country has the ability to stand against an international aggressor in Russia, a country that decided to walk over the border, destroy cities, villages and towns and kill civilians.
“One would be remise to interpret this type of rhetoric as a step back in time. When leaders of Gavins political party used a distinct ideology promoting an international aggressor (Britain)—not only to arm and recruit sectarian death squads. But also give succour to British soldiers whom militarised, occupied and laid siege to nationalist communities as well as murder in a sovereign country Ireland.
