In a statement on November 27, 2024, a spokesperson for Comhairle Uladh (Ulster Executive), Sinn Féin Poblachtach, said: “Society has been broken by repeated British governments for the benefit of corporations and the rich.
“Once upon a time, the people of Britain felt they could rely on a British Labour government to help pull them up by the boot-straps and put extra cash in their pockets. This cannot be achieved when you have universal credit already falling around £120 short of the money people need to afford their basic essentials every month, according to research from Trussell and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach condemns the British imperialists who ensure that there is always an abundance of funds available for war, as shown by the substantial investments made by these individuals in companies such as Babcock International, BAE Systems, GKN Aerospace Services Limited, and Northrop Grumman UK. This blood money is a testament to the ruthless nature of Britain and its imperialist allies, who are adept at extracting every last drop of profit.
“In the meantime, putting arbitrary cost savings ahead of effective reforms leaves a cloud of uncertainty. There is an expectation that producing a white paper called ‘Get Britain Working’, and therefore after it just does that! It is very short-sighted and the blaming and shaming of disabled people must stop. It is worth noting that disabled people have not been consulted on the contents of the White Paper.
“The results for ordinary people will be devastating.”
