In a statement on February 17, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh said: “Regardless of how state-funded quangos need to meet their recruitment quotas the RUC/PSNI will always be British Crown force bully-boys.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach reiterates its position on British policing within Occupied Ireland. They are an occupying power that serves the interests of the British State and no amount of reform or tinkering shall bring about acceptance.
“Furthermore, let’s not forget what happened in March 31, 2018 when the British colonial police, the RUC/PSNI attacked a commemoration in Lurgan, Co Armagh. The venom of that unwarranted attack shone a bright light on the lie that there is a new police force in Occupied Ireland. It is clear that while they have changed the name, it is the same style of policing, the same anti-Irish agenda that is practised by this colonial police force.
“The RUC/PSNI has always been a cold house for Catholics/nationalists.
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach continues to stand firm in our opposition to the RUC/PSNI using the North Lurgan community as a way to entice acceptance.”
