In a statement on August 7, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh said: “We condemn the fawning over British Royals and the fact that they can walk about freely as the occupier of our country?
“In the past the 26-County administration worried about a backlash during the visitation of British Royals. Nowadays, Many of the people who would have been to the fore are now part of the establishment, whether it be in Leinster House or the Occupied Six Counties administration at Stormont.
“On August 4, the so-called Princess Royal was received by Michael D Higgins, which was described in the media as a courtesy call to Áras an Uachtaráin. British Ambassador to the 26 Counties, Paul Johnston, said: ‘The Princess Royal’s visit underscores the deep and enduring friendship between Britain and Ireland.’
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach points out that in the past the British establishment’s so-called courtesy calls meant sending in the British army in support of the Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) due to their inability to maintain order. They never went home!
“Irish revolutionary and 1916 leader Commandant James Connolly, tells us. ‘We, at least, are not loyal men: we confess to having more respect and honour for the raggedest child of the poorest labourer in Ireland today than for any, even the most virtuous, descendant of the long array of murderers, adulterers and madmen who have sat upon the throne of England.’ ”
