In a statement on April 19, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh: “Ex-policeman Jon Borrows claimed that his favourite RUC/PSNI operation was the 2018 attack on an Easter commemoration in Lurgan, North Armagh.
“Burrows made his past actions clear with a post on X (formerly twitter). He stated that Easter Saturday, 2018 was his favourite policing operation. “We arrested the entire CIRA colour party in full formation in the Kilwilkie estate in Lurgan. Eight people were charged, remanded and convicted of unlawful procession and wearing terrorist uniform. They no longer parade like this.”
“Jon Burrows, the former Head of RUC Discipline Branch also stated that on his watch sectarianism was never an issue and furthermore he doesn’t recognise the picture of a sectarian culture within the RUC/PSNI. He also believes there was no collusion between them and loyalist paramilitaries.
“The nationalist community of North Lurgan viewed his so-called historical policing not as he would wish, but as an attack on the Republican/nationalist people at an Easter commemoration. Bolstering his ego Jon Burrows sees this as a policing accolade. In reality it’s about his own prejudices and his closet support for pro-British fascist Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV).
“Many an ex-cop, after retirement rode off into the sunset but it seems that Jon Burrows feels the innate desire to remain a sock puppet for Jim Allistair’s TUV, thus remaining front and centre on any anti-Republican issue and all the while playing his own trumpet.
“On the same day, April 19, 2025: we heard encouraging words from John Joe Mc Cusker in his Easter address to Republicans gathering in North Lurgan. During his oration he used fine words from a letter written by Vol Tom Williams aged 19 yrs before his execution.
“ ‘Carry on, no matter what odds are against you; carry on no matter what the enemy call you; carry on no matter what torments are inflicted on you. The road to Freedom is paved with suffering, hardship and torture: carry on, my gallant comrades until that certain day.’
“Sinn Féin Poblachtach would like to remind counter revolutionary elements. That, our traditional Republican programme is unbowed and unbroken.”
