In a statement on January 28, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh: “It is the duty off every Nationalist/Republicans in the Occupied Six Counties to push back against pro-British imperialism.
This week nationalist parties in Belfast City Council successfully blocked a decision to sign the Armed Forces Covenant at committee level at City Hall.
The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge to honour two main principles: no member of the British armed forces community should face disadvantage at work or in the community compared to other citizens.
“The usual pro-British elements within the Occupied Six Counties blocked any privileges for British army members. Let’s not forget that these same people are guns for hire and salaried to take the lives of the innocent in what the British regime describes as theatres of war. These murderers are not welcome within the national territory of Ireland which is the sovereign property of the Irish people, Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter.
“The Nationalist/Republican people in the Occupied Six Counties will not be pushed and or forced to roll over upon anything to do with special privileges to past, present or future members of the British Army.
This Armed Forces Covenant has been described as a divisive issue. Careerist politicians talk about equality screening and a report that concluded that the signing of the covenant is likely to have a minor impact on the basis of religious belief and political opinion on both the promotion of equality of opportunity grounds and good relations grounds.
Sinn Féin Poblachtach is unequivocal with its opposition to such partitionist fudge. The language being used is just whataboutery, all in an effort to disguise the need to maintain a sectarian statelet carve-up. Our message should be firm; no foreign nation or country will ever be allowed to pull us apart and no treaty, agreement or tinkering shall declare for two nations in Ireland and be allowed to maintain.
