“In a statement on April 29, 2025 a spokesperson for Cumann Tomás Ó hAirt, Sinn Féin Poblachtach, Ard Mhacha Thuaidh: “The historical occasion of Easter 1916 becomes a perfect dupe for manipulators and anti-republican activists who sell the idea that there is an us that is better than them.

“The sectarian rhetoric has already taken centre stage and the reoccurrence of Protestant Unionist Loyalist (PUL) community festooning the Occupied Six Counties with their pro-British insignia will allow for another unpleasant summer. The marching bands tradition will parade, display hate messaging and air sectarian songs whilst laying siege to many town centres.

“Sinn Féin Poblachtach believes that we all have a common identity as human beings, as members of the great family of peoples. We wish to play our role in this wider world community on the basis of equality and respect for the rights of others.

“During this year, the 109th anniversary of the Easter Rising of 1916, Irish Republicans gathered at the gravesides to remember the life, service and death of all volunteers who lost their lives in the pursuit of a 32-county democratic socialist republic.

“We’re more powerful together, united beyond the boundaries of manufactured divisions. How would it feel to have the complete overthrow of British rule in Ireland, and the establishment of a Federal Democratic Socialist Republic based on the Proclamation of 1916? It will guarantee, ‘religious and civil liberty, equal rights and equal opportunities to all its citizens . . . cherishing all the children of the nation equally, and oblivious of the differences carefully fostered by an alien government, which have divided a minority from
the majority in the past’.

“The Proclamation of 1916 wasn’t just a statement written on paper; it was carried out by real people who bled for its cause.

“It is the objective of the political-neoliberal class to peddle division and this has been reinforced by the pro-British architects of the so called Good Friday Agreement. By all accounts, it promises many more decades of working class alienation and institutionalised sectarianism. The sooner it falls, the better.”
