The ‘Republican SINN FÉIN Poblachtach 1916 National Centenary Committee’ in conjunction with the Comhairle Chuige of Sinn Féin Poblachtach organised four provincial commemorations to remember the sacrifice of 1916 Volunteers.

In Ulster Republican Sinn Féin held commemoration in Belfast at the former home of James Connolly and also a ceremony in Miltown Cemetery addressed by President Des Dalton. Later the same day, RSF in North Armagh unveiled a memorial garden to 1916 Vol. Edward Costello, KIA during that great uprising.

The unveiling got significant media coverage due to the unwarranted presence and attempts by the RUC/PSNI to criminalize the commemoration. Twelve members of Sinn Féin Poblachtach were arrested, one man was charged, and dozens of others warned they were participating in an illegal parade.

Republican Sinn Féin have always resisted the British presence in Ireland, we have not and never will ask permission to march on our streets, overall the day was a victory for revolutionary republicanism exposing the true colours of the British agenda.

Republican Sinn Féin salute the people of North Armagh who daily live under this occupation. We thank them for the continued support, financial and otherwise towards the successful unveiling of the Edward Costello 1916 Memorial Garden. As was stated by the main speaker on the day, this Garden was “built for the People by the People.”
